Fancy a good royal diet? Then grab yourself some fish and chips.
A source close to the Queen has revealed that while staying at her Scottish Balmoral retreat, she sends a lackey to the chippy. One of the richest women in the world is content with a few dozen takeaways.
A source told the Mirror: “She occasionally feasts on fish and chips when she is at Balmoral. A footman is sent to get it from the local town of Ballater.

Back in England, however, the monarch would prefer a homemade version of the dish. Darren McGrady, the Queen’s former chef, said that instead of cooking the fish by coating it in batter and frying it in lard or oil, Her Majesty likes it coated in breadcrumbs and baked in oven.
Darren was the Queen’s personal chef at Buckingham Palace between the 1980s and 1990s. He recalls many oddities on the royal bench.
Discussing on his YouTube channel about his tastes, he said: “Fried fish in all that rich, crispy batter was a bit too much for her, she preferred more refined fish and chips.” He also told the Telegraph she couldn’t be described as a ‘foodie’, unlike her late husband Prince Phillip, who ‘likes to eat and stand and talk about food all day’.
When she travels, the Queen is known to eat Dundee cake and be particular about the type of water she drinks. She often asks for Malvern water for her cup of tea.
